If I don’t feel that I’m the best fit for you, I will provide you with referrals to other providers who may be a better match.


Assessment

If we decide to proceed with treatment, we’ll schedule an initial intake appointment. Since each person’s symptoms manifest differently, and since people may be seeking different goals when attending therapy, I begin with an initial assessment process where I get to know you, ask about what you’re looking for from treatment, learn about your symptoms, and seek to understand how your symptoms are interfering with your life. I will also ask questions about your background, including treatment history, relationships, education, and medical issues. Then I will present to you my understanding of what you’ve told me, along with a proposed treatment plan.

Therapy

Most therapy is carried out in weekly 50-minute sessions. Some treatments may be more effective when we meet for longer sessions, which we will discuss together in advance. Some sessions may be most effective outside of the therapy office, wherever your anxiety lives. For this reason, we may decide to do exposures in other places, such as parks, malls, or libraries. However, I will always work with you in advance to make a plan to maximize your confidentiality in these circumstances. Note that all sessions are currently being conducted via secure telehealth.
